NFL Power Rankings: All 32 Teams Through Week 2

Every team's rating, offense, defense, success rates, opponent quality and remaining schedule. Garbage time excluded.

The San Francisco 49ers logo on a deep red background — the team rated first in the Week 2 power rankings.

All 32 teams through Week 2, including Monday Night Football. Everybody has two real games in the book now.

What the columns mean

Rating is how many points per game a team has outplayed its opponents by, counting only the snaps that mattered — anything after a game was already decided is thrown out, so a late touchdown in a blowout helps nobody. Zero is league average. San Francisco at +16.0 has been about sixteen points a game better than the teams it has played; Indianapolis at −20.0 has been twenty points worse.

Off /play and Def /play split that same performance by side of the ball, shown per play instead of per game. That's why they look small, and it's why they matter more than they look — a tenth of a point a snap is an enormous edge across sixty snaps. On defense, negative is good: those are points the defense kept off the board.

Off succ and Def succ are the share of plays that gained enough to stay on schedule for the down and distance. Rating tells you how much damage got done; success rate tells you how often. A team can be high in one and low in the other, and that gap is usually the story — Dallas sits 18th while running one of the league's best offenses, because the defense gives it all back.

Opp is how tough each team's slate has been so far, measured by how good its opponents have looked in their other game. It is context only — it is not baked into the rating. That's why Seattle at +19.7 is worth a second look despite modest raw numbers, and why Las Vegas at −17.3 should be read with some suspicion.

Next 3 is the Week 3–5 schedule. SOS ranks what's left from 1 to 32, hardest first, with the difficulty figure in brackets — the Chargers at #1 (+4.8) have the roughest road remaining, Houston at #32 (−5.3) the easiest by a distance.

Exactly how the rating is built is ours. What it isn't: there's no poll in it, no preseason expectation, and no special teams number, because the underlying data doesn't carry one. Two games is also a small sample — trust the top and the bottom of this list more than the middle, where one quarter of football still moves a team ten places.

Caveats on individual teams

  • Bears — no injury adjustment applied this version since Caleb Williams is a game-time decision, not a confirmed out - treat this rating as having downside risk if he sits.
  • Giants — starting QB Jaxson Dart is out for the season. Jameis Winston takes over, and the rating above does not account for the change.
